Introduction. The modern institution of the family is undergoing transformational changes. One of the directions of these changes is the increase in the number of divorces. Modern researchers put forward various hypotheses explaining this phenomenon. Studying the reasons why families break up is necessary to develop social and
public policy measures that will be aimed at preventing divorce.
Materials and methods. Statistical materials on demography were used to analyze the level of marriages and
divorces in the Ivanovo region. To study the distribution of family responsibilities of generation X and ideas about
the distribution of family responsibilities of generation Z, the formalized interview method was used. This method
allowed us to interview 200 people in a short time. Also, as a result of the application of the formalized interview
method, it was possible to ensure the representativeness of the sample using a mathematical apparatus.
Results. The article presents the results of a secondary analysis of documents containing statistical data on
the levels of marriage and divorce in the Ivanovo region. The statistics of marriages and divorces in Russia in recent years have been presented. The results of the sociological study of the distribution of family responsibilities
of generation X and ideas about the distribution of family responsibilities of generation Z have also been provided. An important result of this study was the development of a questionnaire for future spouses. The authors
recommend that young couples should be offered to fill out this questionnaire before getting married. Moreover,
the process of filling out the questionnaire by the spouses is important, as it provides an opportunity to discuss
important issues of future life together. The text of the questionnaire is presented in the article.
Discussion. The prospects of the study are to conduct longitudinal sociological and psychological studies that
would allow us to assess the degree of influence of the preliminary agreements of future spouses on the stability
and duration of marriage.
