The relevance of research lies in the fact that regardless of the ban on the use of political ideology,
as it is stated in the constitution, in the CIS countries the ruling elites today use several methods for transformation of political consciousness of the people by ideologizing sociopolitical norms and traditions, albeit informally but as state ideology.
The purpose of the article is to determine the general development of patriotism as state ideology in the
CIS countries and to identify the methods used to describe the content of patriotism by the ruling elites, as well as to develop patriotism as an ideology in the structure of political consciousness.
The following methods were used in this research: methods of comparison and analogy and historical approach.
The scientific novelty consists in revealing the essence of patriotism in the Post-Soviet countries and
the trends in its development, such as negative and positive patriotism. The research pays attention to the
importance of patriotism in shaping the corresponding political consciousness.
Results. The state ideology is prohibited in the post-Soviet countries. However, due to the absence of
another method of government control, today assimilation of patriotism and the state ideology is frequently used to ensure stability through the transformation of political consciousness. The article reveals the formation of the norms and values of patriotism on the basis of the customs and traditions of the state and its history. Patriotism is used by the ruling elite as a state ideology, as a method of political education
and formation of the necessary political consciousness in order to create loyal social groups, especially among the younger generation.
